Situational Awareness For Education
The SSAC Situational Awareness Training is designed to best prepare school staff to identify and mitigate a threat before it materializes into a full-blown crisis. From the bus driver to the main office staff and leadership team, this instructional session will assist staff in creating a sustained mindset that enables team members to transition into an alert mode and communicate the potential threat to others. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security defines situational awareness as “the ability to identify, process, and comprehend the critical information about an incident, knowing what is going on around you, which requires continuous monitoring of relevant sources of information regarding an actual incident and developing hazards.” The key is to establish a process by which critical information from relevant sources can be relayed to the threat assessment team or appropriate school administrator.
